Music Appreciation Sunday and Church Picnic

June 3rd is Music Appreciation Sunday. There will be one service at 10:00 am, followed by a church picnic. The choir, praise band, bells and New Song will all help us make a joyful noise to the Lord.

Adult Sunday School studies “Simply Jesus”

The Adult Sunday School class will be studying “Simply Jesus: A New Vision of Who He Was, What He Did and Why It Matters” by N.T. Wright starting March 18 through mid-May. In this study, Wright (a leading Biblical scholar) examines the message of Jesus in the world He came to 2000 years ago. Wright peels away the historical layers, complexities, and traditions of those 2000 years to provide a deeply insightful vision of Jesus the Man, Son of God, the Jewish boy from Nazareth. Mary Lynn Borque will be leading the study starting at 10 AM in the downstairs corner classroom. The book costs $14.32 hardcover, or $11.99 for a Kindle download.

TOPS–Teens Opposing Poverty

Once a month our youth group travels to DC to bring food and fellowship to homeless men and women. More than a time of giving, it also helps us to see this vulnerable group as our brothers and sisters. Although this effort is led by the youth, anyone is welcome to come. Donations of toiletries and warm clothes are welcome–you can leave them in the bins just inside the fellowship hall. Pictured above are our youth along with their guide. The next TOPS trip into DC will be Sunday, February 12, leaving church after the second service.

Non-Fiction Book Club

A new book club, with a decidedly non-fiction bent, is forming at St. Andrew. The club will meet every other month and will focus on science, environment, theology, history and politics and their connection to Christianity and faith. The group welcomes everyone to the book discussion, pizza and beer. The next meeting will be Aug. 26 at Destry Jarvis’s home to discuss Atheist Delusions: the Christian Revolution and its Fashionable Enemies by David Bentley Hart. St. Andrew also has a very popular book club that reads both fiction and non-fiction. Their next meeting will be June 25 at 7:30 pm at Betty McNair’s home to discuss The Great Divorce by Ilyon Woo. Contact Zoe Sowers for more information.

Crop Walk

125 walkers from seven churches took to the W & OD on a beautiful Sunday afternoon several weeks ago to raise money for hunger relief. They walked from the old Purcellville Train Station to Ivandale Rd., a distance of about six miles, which is the distance many people in the world have to walk each day to get food and water. The event raised approximately $20,000. 25% of the money goes to Loudoun Interfaith Relief, and the rest goes to Church World Service for hunger and refugee-related projects around the world.

At this time the Coalition is in shortest supply of $10 grocery store food cards as well as monetary gifts.

Circle of Grace Bible Study and Fellowship
